AmCham Tunisia was represented by its Vice President, Ms. Nahla Nasri, at “The Great Debate,” an event organized by Univers News under the theme “Tunisia and the New Geoeconomy.”
During her address, Ms. Nasri emphasized AmCham’s crucial role as a catalyst for revitalizing the Tunisian economy. She underscored the importance of bilateral trade as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth. In a constantly evolving global landscape, she warned against the risks of a “business as usual” approach, advocating for adaptive strategies to maintain competitiveness.
Ms. Nasri highlighted the added value of Tunisian products, showcasing their productivity and identifying new opportunities in international markets. She stressed the need to establish resilient long-term growth avenues that are well-suited to future challenges while strengthening the mutually beneficial trade relationship between Tunisia and the United States.
Additionally, she addressed the new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration and proposed solutions to mitigate their impact on exports across various sectors. In conclusion, AmCham’s participation in this event underscored promising prospects for the Tunisian economy and reinforced trade links between the two countries.
Ms. Nasri recalled the AmCham recommandations :
- Establish close coordination between the public and private sectors, involving various stakeholders.
- Nominate a working group from both sectors to drive a robust advocacy plan in Washington.
- Implement a rigorous Direct Export Support Program.
- Develop sector-specific preferential agreements.
- Create a Tunisian-US Bilateral Steering Committee to monitor progress.
- Collaborate closely with the US government on bilateral tariff exemptions for selected products.
- Work alongside the government to advance all the aforementioned initiatives.
- Involve AmCham and professional federations in driving a strategic plan.
